Hashtags are more important on Instagram than just about any other social media platform. This isn’t to say that hashtags alone will launch your business profile, but it will have an immediate impact on your brand awareness. Users utilize hashtags to find their communities on the platform where they post and search regularly. Below are three tips to help optimize your hashtag use and streamline the process so you don’t have to search 20-30 unique tags each time you post.

1. You need a place to start?

Type in the keyword you are looking for. This could be business, this could be entrepreneur, this could be books! On your computer, or a separate sheet of paper, scroll through and write down at least 60 hashtags in your field. That way you won’t have to search every time you post. Organize the hashtags by popularity seen in number of posts. You want to have a variety of small, medium, and large hashtags.

That way you won’t have to search every time you post. Organize the hashtags by popularity seen in number of posts. You want to have a variety of small, medium, and large hashtags.

  • Small: Intimate community that interacts with most posts. Will last a long time on explore page. Think niche.
  • Medium: Gain some new followers, but still somewhat active community. Includes multiple niches. Will last medium time on explore page.
  • Large: will last a couple seconds on the explore page if you’re lucky. If your post gains some steam it will attract a large new audience to your page.

2. Shortcuts:

You don’t want to have to retype or copy and paste your hashtags every time. If you have a mac your notepad can connect to your iPhone. Type your hashtags into blocks of 25-30 a piece in the notepad.

From there go to your phone’s keyboard and set up a shortcut for each block. This way when you finish typing a caption for your post all you have to do is type in your 4-6 letter shortcut and 30 hashtags will appear.

Keep the shortcut simple. Make it the same letters then change the number on the end: 1, 2, 3 etc.

3. Rotate your hashtags:

This will eliminate the threat of being perceived as a bot and will gain exposure to different communities. As mentioned on the above posts, you should have enough hashtags to create multiple blocks and will have a different shortcut for each one.

Hope you found these tips helpful!
